World-Class Training

Clockwork Solutions conducts SPAR, and ATLAST Technology seminars, workshops, and training courses periodically in various parts of the world. (Note: the term “SPAR” used hereunder refer to either SPAR or VisualSPAR). Please click "here" for more information on our next training session.

Clockwork provides SPAR training via two methods:

• Basic course (5 days) - provides the student with an introduction to the SPAR methodology and its underlying mathematics, and instruction in using SPAR to model real-world system life cycle management problems.

• Stage training – includes two sessions at customer facilities, combining a direct project approach with training of new modelers. The class is targeted at technical professionals responsible for analyzing and optimizing performance and logistic resources to support capital-intensive systems. It will feature examples from the defense, chemical, power, and telecommunication industries.

• Session 1 - an introduction to SPAR and the math concept, then some discussions on the project under development, duration 3 days. Class gets detailed homework to perform on the project for the next two weeks with phone support.
• Session 2 - comprehensive work on problems addressed in the project and in depth SPAR methodology and features, duration 3 days.

Class sessions may be held at Clockwork's training facility in Austin, Texas, or at the customer site. Instructors will be experienced Clockwork Solutions staff.

Specific topics covered include:

• Introduction to system modeling using SPAR
• The mathematical underpinnings of SPAR
• Using SPAR: a series of very simple models to illustrate model creation, data entry, use of alternative distribution types, and output viewing processes in SPAR
• Analysis of life cycle cost of two alternative designs , introducing the notions of redundancy, spare parts optimization, and cost
• Analysis of system performance with passive redundancy and with uncertain data, describing how to deal with uncertain data and introducing the use of logic in SPAR to model master-slave relationships and time delays
• Analyzing the influence of failure distribution types, repair effectiveness, and preventive maintenance on availability using a simple system to explore the interactions between these various support elements. Time permitting, examples will be used to reinforce concepts studied.

Upon completion of the class, students will be able to create SPAR models of systems that will predict and optimize their life cycle performance and cost-considering factors, such as:

• Hierarchical structure
• Redundancy and the operating rules for using it
• The age and aging rates of components
• Interactions among components, such as induced failures
• Planned and unplanned outages
• Repair capabilities
• The initial spare part allocation and replenishment policies
• Maintenance policies

Course fees cover all instructional expenses, including computers (when in Clockwork facilities). Attire is casual. Class participants are encouraged to have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows.

Customers interested in expanding their knowledge in the areas of system engineering and predictive modeling and simulations, and in the applications of SPAR to solve real-life problems, are encouraged to read Prof. A. ATLAST Training

Clockwork Solutions also provides training in ATLAST applications. The course is held periodically in Austin, Texas or at client sites upon request.
